Profile

Anupam Gopal received his B.E. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Visweswaraiah Technological University, Bangalore, India in 2002. He has worked as an Assistant Manager at Reliance Energy Limited (R.E.L), Murmagao, Goa, India (2002-2004). He was overall responsible for supply of uninterrupted power to Verna Industrial Estate comprising of more than 80 private customers.

He is currently working on his PhD. in Electrical Engineering and holds the position of Research fellow in the Center of Electric Power Engineering at Drexel University.
Anupam has been involved with the following projects at C.E.P.E, Drexel University under the guidance of Dr. Dagmar Niebur.

Projects:

· Steady State Power System Analysis on Graphics Processing Unit. (2005-present)

This project involves efficiently parallelizing and implementing the power flow algorithm on a high end graphics processor NVIDIA 7800 GTX. The traditional algorithms of Power System analysis has to be recast into graphics terms keeping in mind the underlying hardware, its design, limitation and evolution. Successful completion of this work will ultimately improve security, reliability and economics of power system operation.

· Symbolic Algebraic Techniques for Steady State Power System Analysis. (2004-2005)

Project involves using tools form commutative algebra and algebraic geometry to gain analytical insight in the dependencies of system voltages and systems loads and characterization of security boundaries. Buchberger’s Algorithm, used for obtaining closed form solution of nonlinear equations, was used in conjunction with interval arithmetic and implemented in MAPLE-9.
